VISwijzer
Good Fish Foundation is owner of the VISwijzer. The VISwijzer is a database consisting of every type of fish being traded in The Netherlands. With the VISwijzer, we advise consumers, horeca and retail parties in making a sustainable seafood choice.
The scores on the VISwijzer are based on the most recent, scientific data on fish stocks. The databases of WWF, Fishbase and the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) are also used. We review and renew the VISwijzer every year.
In the VISwijzer scores, we differentiate three different categories. The categories for farmed fish are as followed: Source usage, impact on the environment, management. And the categories for wildcatch are: Fish stocks and fishing pressure, ecosystem effects, fishery management.
