Make a sustainable choice!

Many different types of fish are eaten in the Netherlands. However, not all of these are equally sustainable. Good Fish has identified six fish species where major sustainability issues are involved.

It is also possible to replace some unsustainable species with sustainable alternatives! For example, make use of these substitutes:

Avoid – Small sole. Replace this species with a larger sole!

Avoid – Eel. Replace this species with (smoked) trout!

Avoid – Tropical prawns without an ecolabel. Replace it with ASC or BIO labelled tropical prawns!

Avoid – North Sea cod. Replace this species with whiting!

Avoid – Farmed sea bass without an ecolabel. Replace it with ASC labelled sea bass!

Avoid – Uncertified yellowfin, albacore and skipjack tuna. Replace these for MSC labelled tuna!
