Rope culture is used to farm mussels. Mussel seed of 1-2 cm hangs vertically in the water column, trapped in a net. The mussel seed will grow here until it is ready for harvest. This way of farming mussels gives higher profits than bottom culture. Although this is an environmentally friendly way of aquaculture, there is some accumulation of nutrients under the nets.
