Yellowtail kingfish (producer assessment)

The yellowtail kingfish (also known as yellowtail amberjack) scores green in the producer specific assessment made by the Good Fish Foundation supported by WWF Netherlands.

The farming of kingfish in a recirculation system doesn’t lead to negative effects on the direct environment. Waste, like faeces or surplus feed, is filtered from the water before it goes back to sea. Kingfish Zeeland puts a lot of research and energy into improving fish welfare. By preventing disease outbreaks, no antibiotics are needed during production. The fish get organic feed from sustainable and fully traceable marine and vegetable ingredients and the farm uses only green energy.

The company can improve on several points, including humane slaughter method, improving the feed conversion rate nad reuse of waste by means of aquaponics.
