The phenomenon whereby a lost- or released fishing gear is still catching fish; which can be considered as lost catch.

A fishing technique whereby passing fish get caught in the meshes with their gills. The net stands vertically on the bottom or hangs on buoys in the water column. The by-catch of species such as porpoises and dolphins is a problem related to gillnets.

A fishing technique whereby fishing nets are 'standing' upright in the water with floating main lines and weighted under lines. They can be placed in both the water column and the seabed. Fish get stuck in the nets with their gills.
