Ring nets and lift nets are active fishing methods used to catch pelagic species. Ring nets are set in a circle around a school of fish. The bottom of the net is then closed and the net is hauled in. Ring nets vary in size from small to large.
Lift nets are square fishing nets attached to two curved poles that cross each other. A line is attached at the point where the two poles cross, allowing the net to be moved vertically from a vessel or from the shore. The square net is lowered to the bottom and, after some time, rapidly lifted. Fish swimming above the net are caught in this way. Depending on the target species, lights or bait may be used to attract the fish.
