Organic farmed

Organically farmed fish must meet strict environmental requirements. The percentage of wild fish in the fish feed is limited and must be caught sustainably. There are also requirements for animal welfare. Fish density is lower, the natural habitat is simulated as much as possible and the fish are stunned before slaughter. Wild fish cannot carry an organic label. Fish species currently available with an organic ecolabel are Atlantic salmon, trout, and shrimp. The European BIO ecolabel guarantees that it is an organic product. In addition to the EU label, a national ecolabel for organic farming can be included on the packaging. Sometimes these national labels have additional criteria in place, but this is not always the case.
