Fishing and farming methods

Cages

Cages for farming can be located in either rivers or seas, often in areas that are protected from storms and high waves. Because the cages are in open connection to the surrounding water, diseases and parasites can easily be spread from farmed fish to wild fish and vice versa. Chemicals, medicines, and faeces all end up in the surrounding waters and even escaped farmed fish end up in wild populations, as the cage nets damage easily. Most of the salmon that you buy is farmed in this type of system.
